The Beautiful South Awards for Excellence 2011

Abbey Guest House was delighted to be a finalist in two categories. The winners were announced at the Gala Awards Evening on 1st December 2011.

TripAdvisor 2011 Certificate of Excellence award winner

We were delighted to receive this award from TripAdvisor because it represents a consistently high level of appreciation by our guests. They have rate us five out of five! We think this is incredible and are extremely grateful to everyone who takes the trouble to file a report after staying with us.


Enjoy England Quality Rating 2011

Our 4 Star Silver rating has been confirmed again. We gained 4 diamonds in 2004 shortly after Abbey Guest House opened. Later upgraded to 4 stars and more recently upgraded again to include the Silver Award. This is due in no small way to our dedicated small team of staff at this the highest accredited graded accommodation in Abingdon.


National Accessible Scheme

We have been accessed within the English Tourism grading system.

We meet the criteria for:
  • Hearing Impaired and Deaf People 1
  • Visually Impaired and Blind People 1
Physically we meet criteria for:
  • Older and Less Mobile Guests
  • Part Time Wheelchair Users
We think this is marvellous as Abbey Guest House started as a 1970's residential house and was not built to modern access standards in any way. We continue to actively strive to identify and remove disabling barriers as opportunities present.


Note: Based upon our guest experiences, we find full-time wheelchair users can stay quite happily with us. However, a main criteria for the NAS level of 'Independent Wheelchair User' requires at least a 1.5m turning circle, where we have only 1.42m available.


Abingdon Access Awards 2009

Our local Vale Disability Access Group presented us this Access Award in recognition of our efforts to meet the requirements of disabled customers. Coming from disabled persons themselves we particularly value this appreciation of our efforts.
