Food at the Abbey Guest House
After a good night's sleep in one of our comfortable beds, breakfast at the Abbey is intended to be an enjoyable experience. Fresh Farm Eggs are delivered each week from a local Free Range supplier (The Old Farm Shop, Milton Hill, Abingdon)) and milk is also farm fresh. Other produce is obtained locally whenever possible and in season. An extensive range of options ensures that every guest can select the breakfast ingredients of their choice for an 'English Breakfast'. Vegetarian options are always readily available. For those guests that prefer a 'lighter' option, fruit juice, cereals, fruit and yoghurts are usually available. Most special dietary needs can usually be accommodated if notified at the time of booking. For supper, we are only able to offer a limited range of home cooked supper options if pre-ordered, but there are two good pubs close by (see below). There are several excellent restaurants offering a variety of cuisines in the centre of Abingdon and, of course, Oxford is also readily accessible for additional options. Drink at the Abbey Guest House Abbey Guest House is not licensed but is pleased to be able to provide a full range of beverages for our guests' enjoyment. Coffee (full strength and de-caf), hot chocolate and a variety of teas are always available - Earl Grey, Camomile, Rooibos (red bush) and an extensive range of fruit and herbal teas. Local pubs with restaurant facilities The Spread Eagle (Food orders taken 11.00 to 20.00) Most highly recommended is this friendly local pub where single or female guests will feel comfortable and most welcome. Larger groups are encouraged to book in advance as the growing reputation of the excellent food at this pub often means that they are fully booked. www.spreadeagle.org.uk The Boundary House (Food orders taken 12.00 to 21.30 weekdays, different times apply at weekends and Bank Holidays) Another local pub that is almost on our door step is this pub that is part of the 'Greene King' chain. The building was originally the home to Cecil Kimber (1933-1938), Managing Director of the well known M.G. Car Company from 1935 - 1945, and The Boundary House displays memorabilia and pictures dating back to this period. This is also a very popular pub with an extensive menu range. www.theboundaryhouse.com Abingdon Town Centre Restaurants In the town centre of Abingdon, there are numerous well-established restaurants that specialise in Chinese, Indian, Italian, Thai and Vietnamese cuisines. There are also a variety of 'take-away' establishments. Please ask for recommendations as the nature of the town means that options are constantly changing. |
